Palmiet and Eikenhof systems to be impacted by Eskom maintenance on 21 January

Rand Water has notified Johannesburg Water of a planned maintenance by Eskom on a transformer supplying Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Treatment Plant. This will affect water supply within Rand Water’s distribution network on Sunday, 21 January 2024 from 08:00 – 15:00. This maintenance is conducted to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Rand Water systems that will be affected are Palmiet and Eikenhof. During this period, pumping capacity of the Palmiet system will be reduced by 23% for eight hours and pumping capacity for the Eikenhof system will be reduced 12% for 24 hours.

This reduction in pumping will affect Johannesburg reservoirs storage capacity. Therefore, during this period Johannesburg Water customers are requested to reduce consumption to prevent depletion of Johannesburg Water’s storage capacity, and ultimately low pressure to no water.
The Eikeinhof system supplies water to the following Johannesburg Water infrastructure: (RW Meredale system) all Soweto Reservoirs including Eagles Nest, Alan Manor, Naturena, Kibler Park, Crown Gardens, Aeroton and Orlando East Reservoirs, (RW Waterval system) most Randburg Reservoirs and Towers, (RW White Ridge system) most Roodeport Reservoirs and Towers, (RW Weltevreden system) other Randburg Reservoirs and the Commando system.

The Palmiet system supplies water to the following Johannesburg Water infrastructure: Sandton system, Midrand system, including South Hills Tower, Alexander Park, Linksfield, Randjieslaagte and Modder Hill Reservoirs.
