Johannesburg Water monitoring Crown Gardens, Commando and Linden 1 systems
Towers and reservoirs within the Roodepoort/Randburg areas are stable. Customers in these areas will have water restored.
The priority is to stabilise the Crown Gardens and Commando systems (Brixton, Hursthill and Crosby), while closely monitoring the Linden 1 system (Linden 1 reservoir and Linden 1 tower).
The status of Johannesburg Water infrastructure:
Commando system
Both Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs are critically low to empty. Levels at the Brixton reservoir continue to improve, and the outlet is currently opened at 100%. The Brixton tower is operating normally. Customers should have normal water supply in the Brixton reservoir and tower zones. Residents in the higher lying areas supplied by Hursthill reservoirs are impacted by low pressure or no water.
Crown Gardens system
The reservoir levels have decreased, resulting in the isolation of pumps to the tower. The reservoir outlet remains opened at 50%. The tower still has capacity; however, customers will be impacted by no water once the tower’s capacity has reduced. Further updates will be provided.
Linden 1 system
The Linden 1 reservoir is gradually recovering. The tower is currently empty. We are monitoring this critically impacted tower as it slowly stabilises.
Alternative water supply to customers in the affected areas will be provided through mobile tankers.
Customers are requested to urgently reduce consumption, which will significantly assist in the recovery of the affected systems.
Further updates will be provided to customers.
