Systems Update
Rand Water Maintenance: Eikenhof Pump Station
Maintenance at Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Station continues according to schedule until 12 July 2024. Johannesburg Water systems supplied by Eikenhof are stable and most are supplying fairly.
The following systems are supplying poor to fairly:
Soweto systems
Most Soweto systems are supplying fairly. The Doornkop West Reservoir increased compared to Monday and is supplying fairly. However, poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas due to increased demand. As part of interventions, the reservoir outlet is closed overnight to build capacity.
The Protea Glen Reservoir and Tower are supplying fairly, but there are localised challenges that are resulting in the system being unstable. Poor pressure is expected in certain parts of the supply zone, while other areas may experience no water supply, especially in the Protea Glen extensions.
Johannesburg Water will closely monitor all systems and continue to provide alternative water supply to affected customers.
Commando system
Although the overall capacity in the system has improved compared to Monday, and sitting at 47%, the reservoirs and towers are still under strain as a result of the ongoing demand exceeding supply. Reconfigurations are in progress for equitable distribution of available capacity. Stationery and roaming tankers are provided as and when required to provide relief for the Hursthill and Brixton supply zones. Hursthill 2 and Brixton outlet open and supplying fairly.
•Crosby Reservoir: The reservoir level improved overnight and is supplying fairly. Pumping to the Brixton Reservoir has improved and is at 100% but can be affected by available inflows.
•Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir improved and supplying fairly. The outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity. The tower levels have declined as they are affected by the reservoir levels.
•Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs: Currently, both reservoirs have improved and are supplying fairly. However, both reservoirs are still under strain, and poor pressure may be experienced. As part of interventions, the Hursthill 1 Reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply from neighbouring zones, while the outlet of Hursthill 2 reservoir will be closed overnight to build capacity. Other system specific interventions are implemented on an ongoing basis to respond to varying supply, current demand and reservoir levels.
