Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station Maintenance Update

Maintenance at the Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station has been completed, and pumping remains at 100%. However, some Johannesburg Water systems have declined, and some are empty. Recovery will not be immediate, with some reservoirs and towers taking up to a week or longer to stabilize. Johannesburg Water is continuously monitoring all systems supplied from the Palmiet Pump Station and implementing necessary interventions to facilitate timely recovery and minimize customer impact.

The following systems are recovering:

Alexander Park Reservoir: The reservoir has improved and is supplying adequately. However, demand remains high and often exceeds supply. The outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.

Sandton System: The reservoirs and towers in the Sandton system are low and declining due to poor incoming supply. Some areas may experience poor pressure to no water. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the system and implementing interventions to ensure equitable distribution.

  • Bryanston Reservoir and Tower: Both have declined but are supplying adequately. Poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas.

  • Morningside Reservoir: Critically low, with poor pressure to no water expected in the supply zone.

  • Linbro Park and Marlboro Reservoirs: All have declined but are supplying adequately. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the situation.

  • Illovo Reservoir and Tower: Both are critically low to empty. Poor pressure to no water is expected. Interventions are being implemented to facilitate recovery.

Midrand System: Reservoirs and towers in the Midrand system are declining due to poor incoming supply, resulting in poor pressure to no water for customers.

  • President Park Reservoirs and Tower: The reservoir is critically low, with poor pressure to no water expected; the tower is on bypass mode and affected similarly.
  • Rabie Ridge Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir improved overnight and is supplying adequately, but the tower is constrained, leading to poor pressure to no water in high-lying areas.

  • E-Rand Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir is critically low and declining. Poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas. The tower is on bypass and may be affected by poor pressure to no water. Interventions are being implemented to facilitate recovery.

  • Grand Central Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir is low but supplying adequately. The tower is low but improving and supplying adequately. Pumping may be affected by the reservoir’s low level. Interventions are being implemented to facilitate recovery.

Johannesburg Water continues to provide alternative water supply through water tankers to the affected areas.
