Vuk’Uphile Contractor Development Learnership empowerment programme
The Johannesburg Water’s Vuk’Uphile Contractor Development Learnership empowerment programme is a joint initiative between Johannesburg Water – the City’s water and sanitation entity – and the National Department of Public Works.
The programme also forms part of the City’s Expanded Public Works Programme, which seeks to create employment and business opportunities for registered cooperatives and small businesses. The main objective of this programme is: by the time the candidates completed the training, they would have acquired NQ Level 4 qualifications in construction and project supervision, which would enable them to undertake bigger construction projects for the creation of sustainable job opportunities.

The Johannesburg Water Learner Contractor programme is one of the Programmes within Johannesburg Water. The objective of these programmes is to create decent jobs within the City of Johannesburg so to improve the quality of lives and alleviate poverty. The programmes will be implemented throughout the City with more emphasis on youth and women being the core beneficiaries.
