Johannesburg Water working to resolve supply challenges
Johannesburg Water recognises the plea and frustration of our customers who are impacted by the ongoing water interruptions. We acknowledge that from time to time we encounter challenges in the process of supplying water to our customers.
This has detrimental effects to customers, and we offer our unconditional apology for the inconvenience this is causing.
Over the past few weeks, we have experienced reduced supply into our reservoirs, partly due to the vandalism of City Power’s Orlando Substation on 8 June 2023, which feeds Rand Water’s Eikenhof pumpstation. This caused water outages in multiple suburbs across the city. Although this has been repaired, our system however, is slow to fully recover as various other reservoirs within the City of Johannesburg had also run dry in this process and are currently gradually recovering.
Then on Sunday, 11 June 2023, City Power’s transformer at the Brixton substation caught on fire. This, again, subsequently affected Johannesburg Water’s Brixton, Hursthill and Crosby reservoir systems.
There have also been some operational challenges which we timeously experience from Rand Water which affects our reservoirs, but we continue to be in regular contact with the bulk supplier to resolve such issues.
We appeal for patience and understanding as we work hard to address the current water interruptions.
We are monitoring the recovery of the reservoirs, are providing alternative water tanking and our regular updates to customers.
