30 March unplanned

Please note that there was power failure at the City Power Fordsburg Substation that impacted on Rand Water Eikenhof pump station. This had a negative impact on our Hurst Hill, Crosby and Brixton reservoir system over and above the fact that our pump stations are down due to the power failure at Crosby and Brixton. The Hurst Hill and Brixton Tower is empty and Brixton Reservoir on low levels. Power is now restored at Eikenhof Rand Water pump station. Their Meredale reservoir recovered to about 45% and they have opened the outlets. We will thus start getting water supply into our Crosby Brixton and Hurst Hill reservoirs. Note recovery will be very slow.

Areas affected:
* Brixton
* Crown Ext.
* Braamfontein Werf
* Jan Hofmeyer
* Mayfair
* Langlaagte North
* Crosby
* Melville
* Parktown
*Pageview
*Parktown
*Auckland Park
*Naturena
*Eldorado Park
*Kibler Park
*Devland & Surround.

Shutdown to affect Midrand

Rand Water will undertake urgent repairs on the pipeline that is leaking later today Saturday 27 March2021. The shutdown will start at 18h00 for the duration of 28hrs and will affect greater Midrand, Halfway House, President Park, Rem Allendale and Chloorkop which is supplied from Ekurhuleni.

Due to the large scale of the area, we may not be able to rollout tanks to all affected areas and we appeal to all residents to use water sparingly, only for human consumption so that we can stretch reservoirs capacity and limit times of no water.

Residents will be updated on the Johannesburg Water social media pages.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Johannesburg Water implemented water restrictions by between 20 – 45% in the last week to ensure a sustainable supply for all after Rand water informed the utility of water restrictions from their side due to increase in demand. Johannesburg Water has been in contact with the bulk water supplier Rand Water to increase supply for the reservoir to recover much quicker as a result of high demand in the area.

We plead with all residents of the city of Johannesburg to use water sparingly and residents report all service interruptions through the call centre. The teams are monitoring the reservoir levels and water tankers will be rolled out as and when the need arises per area. All updates will be available on our social media pages and apologies for the inconvenience.
