POWER FAILURE AT TREATMENT PLANT IMPACTED SOME RESERVOIRS

POWER FAILURE AT TREATMENT PLANT IMPACTED SOME RESERVOIRS

Water Interruptions

Media Statement
25 November 2020
POWER FAILURE AT TREATMENT PLANT IMPACTED SOME RESERVOIRS

Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant experienced a power supply failure, which affected water pumping into some Johannesburg Water reservoirs.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 24 November 2020, as a result of an Eskom cable failure between Eskom’s Snowden Substation and Rand Water. Eskom was called in and worked on repairs which were completed at 12:30 today 25 November 2020.

This incident has resulted in the low capacity of some Johannesburg Water (Hurstshill and Roodepoort area) reservoirs levels which are quite low. Full pumping has now begun by Rand Water and we are monitoring the situation.

Johannesburg Water would like to encourage residents to use water sparingly until our capacity has improved. Updates will be provided on social media pages.
