Sandton system update
Illovo reservoir
The reservoir continues to improve and has been supplying at 50% throughout the day. Customers should be receiving water, but poor pressure should be expected in high lying areas while the system recovers.
Illovo tower
The water levels improved, and the supply is normal.
Bryanston reservoir
The reservoir has improved, and the outlets are partially open to supply residents. Poor pressure to no water is expected while the system is recovering.
Bryanston tower
The tower has improved and is supplying normally.
Linbro Park and Marlboro
Both reservoirs have improved, and the outlets are fully open and supplying normally.
Morningside reservoir
The reservoir has improved, and the outlets are partially open to supply residents. Poor pressure to no water is expected while the system is recovering.
As a mitigation strategy the following reservoirs will be throttled to 90% overnight to retain water and build capacity.
• Illovo reservoir
• Bryanston reservoir
• Morningside reservoir
Johannesburg Water will continue to monitor the Sandton system. The overnight throttling is scheduled to begin at 21:00 and conclude in the morning at 04:00. Some areas may still encounter low water pressure while the system recovers. The Sandton system is currently undergoing recovery.

Systems Update
Johannesburg Water is currently experiencing a significant increase in demand throughout the system, resulting in an impact on the overall bulk supply.
South Hills tower
The tower is currently empty and providing supply through bypass mode. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone, especially in high- lying areas. Normal pumping will resume as soon as the supply pressure improves. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the system and further updates will be provided.
Midrand Systems
Most Midrand systems are currently stable, however, the Rabie Ridge reservoir is experiencing high demand and water levels are currently low. The reservoir is currently supplying at 30% while the tower remains on bypass mode. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in parts of the supply zone including Klipfonteinview. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the system for improvements.
Alexander Park reservoir
The reservoir improved overnight and is supplying normally, however, the demand is high. Certain areas of the supply zone may experience poor supply pressure while the system recovers.
Eagles Nest reservoir
The reservoir is critically low due to increasing demand and poor supply pressure. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas, however, the system has been reconfigured to boost the supply.
Linden 1 reservoir and tower
The reservoir level continues to be low, however, the supply is normal. The tower showed improvement overnight and is also supplying normally. Poor pressure may be expected in both systems as they remain low.
Soweto Systems
The Soweto systems remained stable during the day under the heatwave conditions but will be affected by overnight throttling (reducing pressure and flow). The bulk supply remains restricted as a Water Demand management strategy. The Zondi reservoir supply is currently at 60%, while the Power Park reservoir supply is at 50%. Areas fed by the Zondi, Doornkop and Power Park reservoirs are affected by low pressure, while high-lying areas are affected by no water. Bramfischerville is supplying at 50%, and poor pressure to no water is expected most parts of the area. Customers in phases 7 and 9 will experience poor pressure to no water. Certain areas supplied by Protea Glen tower and direct feeds – are experiencing poor pressure to no water. Johannesburg Water is monitoring and investigating the situation.
Commando System
• Brixton reservoir: The reservoir is stable and is currently supplying normally.
• Brixton tower: The reservoir is stable and is currently supplying normally.
• Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs: Both reservoirs are critically low and poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zones. However, the outlets to both reservoirs are fully opened. Hursthill 1 reservoir has been configured to boost supply.
• Crosby reservoir: The reservoir is stable and is currently supplying normally.
Residents are requested to observe level-1 water restrictions which are implemented from 1 September to 31 March. These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, as well as fill up swimming pools and water features between 06:00 and 18:00. Instead, the use of greywater is encouraged.

The tower is critically low – poor pressure to no supply is expected in the supply zone. Tower is currently bypassed but normal pumping will resume once reservoir levels improve
Bryanston reservoir
The reservoir is currently low, and outlets are partially open to build capacity. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. Outlets will be throttled overnight to build storage for the next day.
Bryanston tower
The tower is currently low as a result of the low water level in the reservoir. Poor pressure is expected in the supply zone. Pumping will be stopped overnight and will commence in the morning.
Linbro Park and Marlboro
Both reservoirs are low but remained stable during the day. Outlets will be throttled overnight to retain capacity.
Morningside reservoir
The reservoir remains low, poor pressure is expected in the supply zone while the system is recovering. The outlet will be throttled overnight to build capacity.

Johannesburg Water is observing a high demand across the system, which is affecting the bulk supply.
Soweto Systems
The Soweto systems remained stable during the day under the heatwave conditions but will be affected by overnight throttling (reducing pressure and flow). The bulk supply remains restricted as a Water Demand management strategy. The Zondi reservoir supply is currently at 60%, while the Power Park reservoir supply is at 50%. Areas fed by the Zondi, Doornkop and Power Park reservoirs are affected by low pressure, while high-lying areas are affected by no water. Bramfischerville is supplying at 50%, and poor pressure to no water is expected most parts of the area. Customers in phases 7 and 9 currently have no water supply. Protea Glen tower and direct feeds – certain areas of the supply zone should expect poor pressure to no water. Johannesburg Water is investigating, and further updates will be provided.
Alternative water supply is being provided to the affected areas.
Midrand Systems
Most Midrand systems are currently stable, however, the Rabie Ridge reservoir is experiencing high demand and water levels are currently low. The reservoir is critically low – the reservoir improved overnight and supplied normally during the day. However, levels have since dropped due to high demand and is currently low. As a mitigation strategy the outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.

The reservoir is critically low due to increasing demand and poor supply pressure. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas; however, the system has been reconfigured to boost the supply. Johannesburg Water is also monitoring the impact on the Alan Manor and Naturena reservoirs (which are supplied by the Eagles Nest reservoir).

The following reservoirs will either be closed or throttled to 90% overnight to retain water and build capacity.
• Sandton: Illovo, Bryanston, and Morningside
• Soweto: Freedom Park, Doornkop West, Power Park, Orlando East, and Zondi
• Commando: Brixton, Hursthill 2
• Crown Gardens
• Alexandra Park (closed)
• Midrand: Rabie Ridge, Grand Central, President Park, Erand, and Diepsloot
• The Randjieslaagte and Berea reservoirs may be throttled overnight if necessary due to high demand.
Customers supplied by these reservoirs may experience poor pressure to no flow. Alternative water supply has been arranged through water tankers for the affected areas. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the above systems.

The Morningside, Linbro Park, Bryanston, and Marlboro reservoirs are currently low but supplying normally. High-lying areas in the Bryanston supply zone may experience low pressure to no water. Alternative water supply through water tanker services is ongoing. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the situation.

The reservoir is currently stable but experiencing high demand, which is placing strain on the incoming supply. Johannesburg Water will continue to throttle the reservoir outlet overnight to build capacity for tomorrow.

The reservoir is critically low due to increasing demand and poor supply pressure. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas; however, system has been reconfigured to boost the supply.
