Johannesburg Water Customer Notice: Johannesburg Water monitoring critical systems (Wednesday 1 March 2023)
Johannesburg Water is monitoring the levels of critical systems impacted by fluctuating supply.
The following systems within Johannesburg Water are at low or critically low levels. Customers in these supply zones are requested to reduce consumption as systems recover.
1. Yeoville, Berea and Parktown 2 reservoirs:
Both Rand Water and Johannesburg Water teams are onsite flushing the network to remove air. Once this process has been successfully completed, the reservoirs will begin to build capacity.
2. Commando system: (Hursthill/ Brixton and Crosby):
At this stage, lower supply from Rand Water is impacting on reservoirs and towers within the Commando system. The outlet of the Brixton reservoir is currently isolated to sustain capacity.
3. Crown Gardens system:
Levels are low. Should there be a rapid decrease, the outlet of the reservoir may be isolated.
4. South Hills tower:
Due to reduced supply from Rand Water, the tower levels are critically low to empty. Johannesburg Water and Rand Water teams are investigating the cause of the reduced supply into the tower.
5. Randjieslaagte reservoir:
The reservoir is at low levels and in the process of gradual recovery.
6. Alexander Park reservoir: low but stable.
Further updates will be provided to customers. Johannesburg Water apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Daily water supply system status updates: Monday, 27 February 2023 (Morning)
Water supply status update by exception (i.e., areas affected due to supply constraint and not service interruption from occasional pipe burst).
Unplanned Interruptions
1. Johannesburg Water monitoring infrastructure
Johannesburg Water is monitoring affected systems which were impacted by lower supply from Rand Water’s Meredale and Waterval reservoirs. Customers in lower lying areas are receiving water, while customers in higher lying areas are affected with lower pressure or no water as systems are gradually recovering.
The status of Johannesburg Water infrastructure:
*Commando system:
Both the Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs are critically low.
Levels at Brixton reservoir are low but stable with the outlet opened at 50% to sustain capacity. Brixton tower is operating normally.
The outlets of Brixton and Hursthill 2 reservoirs will be isolated at 21h00 this evening.
*Crown Gardens systems:
The reservoir has recovered, and pumps are supplying the tower. The outlet is isolated at 50% to sustain capacity.
Customers are requested to urgently reduce consumption which will significantly assist in the recovery of the affected systems.
Further updates will be provided to customers.
2. No water in the South Hills tower and Alexander Park reservoir zones
Johannesburg Water is aware that there are customers in the high-lying areas of the South Hills tower and Alexander Park reservoir zones who are experiencing poor pressure to no water this morning.
Teams have been dispatched to assess the cause of the problem. Further updates will be provided.

23 February 2023
Johannesburg Water systems affected by major burst at Palmiet pump station.
Several Johannesburg suburbs that are serviced by the Palmiet pump station might experience low water pressure from this afternoon.
This comes after Rand Water experienced a major burst on its bulk infrastructure, which impacted the Palmiet pump station system that is currently pumping at only 48%.
As a result, water supply to various Johannesburg Water reservoirs, towers, and direct feeds might be affected, leaving various suburbs with reduced supply.
The affected systems include the South Hills tower, Alexander Park reservoir, Linksfield reservoir, Randjieslaagte reservoir, Diepsloot reservoir, Erand reservoir and tower, Grand Central reservoir and tower, President Park reservoir and tower, Rabie Ridge reservoir and tower, Corporate Park reservoir and tower, Randjesfontein reservoir and tower, Steyn City reservoir, Modder Hill reservoir, Linbro Park reservoir, Marlboro reservoir, Illovo reservoir and tower, Morningside reservoir, Bryanston reservoirs and tower, as well as the Dunkeld reservoir.
Rand Water technical teams are on site working to repair the valves.
Johannesburg Water requests customers to reduce consumption to enable a steady water supply during this period.
