Upcoming Rand Water planned shutdown: affected Johannesburg Water reservoirs
As previously communicated, the planned Rand Water shutdown will take place from 19:00 Tuesday, 11 July to 15:00 Thursday, 13 July 2023.
Customers are requested to store water 48 hours (Sunday, 9 July) prior to the start of the shutdown to sustain capacity within the impacted infrastructure.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to install isolation valves, and conduct systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
During the shutdown, Johannesburg Water infrastructure supplied by Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station will be affected by no water supply, as well as areas receiving direct water supply from Rand Water. It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after supply has been fully restored.
Johannesburg Water will make arrangements for alternative water supply at hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations and shopping centres.
Residents will receive regular updates on the official Johannesburg Water social media platforms.

Postponed Rand Water planned shutdown to take place in July
The previously postponed Rand Water shutdown, which was scheduled to take place in June, has been moved to 11 – 13 July 2023.
The planned shutdown will take place from 19:00 on Tuesday, 11 July 2023 to 15:00 on Thursday, 13 July 2023.
Initially, the planned shutdown was scheduled from 20 to 22 June 2023; however, Johannesburg Water requested the postponement in order to provide relief to those areas that had been experiencing water supply challenges in the preceding weeks.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
The following Rand Water reservoirs will be affected:
• Meredale 1 & 2
• Waterval 1 & 2
• Weltevreden
• Roodepoort
• Foresthill 1, 2 & 3
Supply to Johannesburg Water’s Yeoville reservoir will also be affected.

Rand Water postpones planned shutdown
Johannesburg Water would like to advise residents that the Rand Water planned shutdown impacting the Eikenhof Pump Station from 20 to 22 June 2023 has been postponed until further notice.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station
