Johannesburg Water’s system affected by power outage at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station
There has been an incident on the City Power’s system that feeds onto the Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station. The incident happened at 20:00 this evening. Consequently, operations at the pump station have been disrupted, leading to no supply from Eikenhof pump station to Johannesburg Water’s system. The system supplies predominately Soweto, Randburg/Roodepoort, Johannesburg South, and Central.
Johannesburg Water’s systems that are affected:
• Commando System (Crosby reservoir, Brixton reservoir and tower and Hursthill 1 & 2 reservoirs)
• Johannesburg Central (Aeroton reservoir and tower, Crown Gardens tower 1 & 2 and reservoir and Eagles Nest reservoir including Alan Manor and Naturena reservoirs)
• Soweto (Chiawelo reservoir, Diepkloof reservoir, Doornkop West reservoir, Jabulani reservoir, meadowlands reservoir, Orlando East reservoir, Power Park reservoir. Zondi reservoir and tower and Protea Glen reservoir)
• Waterval and Weltevreden (Blairgowrie reservoir, Boschkop reservoir, Constantia tower, Cosmo City reservoir, Florida North tower, Helderkruin reservoir and tower, Honeydew reservoir and tower, Horizon tower, Kensington-B reservoir and tower, Linden 1 reservoir and tower, Linden 2 reservoir, Quellerina tower, Randpark Ridge reservoir, Waterval tower, Olivedale reservoir, Robertsville reservoir, and Witpoortjie reservoir and tower)
Johannesburg Water will throttle (reduce pressure) outlets of the reservoirs to delay the impact of no water. Further updates on the recovery of the impacted infrastructure will be provided.
Customers are urged to adopt water-saving measures to reduce the high consumption and aid in the recovery of the systems.

Systems Update
Systems affected by City Power outage at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station
Central System
• Crosby reservoir is critically low. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Brixton reservoir and tower are both critically low. The reservoir outlet will be throttled (reduced pressure) to 80% overnight. Pumping will resume as soon as the reservoir recovers.
• Hursthill 1 & 2 reservoirs are both critically low. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. Hursthill 2 reservoir outlet will be throttled to 80% overnight.
• Crown Gardens reservoir and towers are low. The reservoir outlet will be throttled to 80% overnight. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the reservoir zone.
• Eagles Nest reservoir is critically low, supplying fairly to Alan Manor and Naturena reservoirs. Poor is expected in the supply zone.
Soweto system
• Chiawelo reservoir, Diepkloof reservoir and Orlando East reservoir are supplying normally. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the impact.
• Jabulani reservoir is on bypass and supplying fairly. Poor pressure is expected in the supply zone.
• Doornkop West reservoir outlet closed overnight. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Braamfischer, Power Park and Meadowlands reservoirs outlet will be throttled to 70% overnight. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Zondi reservoir & tower and Protea Glen reservoir are currently low but supplying normally. Poor pressure is expected in the supply zone.
Randburg system
• Linden 1 reservoir and tower are both critically low. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Linden 2 reservoir, Honeydew reservoir and tower, Cosmo City reservoir, Boschkop reservoir, Olivedale reservoir, and Randpark Ridge reservoir are all supplying normally. Poor pressure in certain parts may be expected as the system is still constrained.
• Robertsville reservoir, Corriemoor reservoir, Kensington-B reservoir, Fairlands reservoir, Helderkruin reservoir, Witpoortjie reservoir and tower and Blairgowrie reservoir are throttled to 70%. Poor pressure to no water may be expected overnight while the reservoirs are throttled.
• Kensington-B tower, Helderkruin tower, Constantia tower, Florida North tower, and Horizon tower are all supplying fairly, but may be affected by poor supply.
• Quellerina tower and Waterval tower are both empty. No water is expected in the supply zone. Pumping will resume as soon as Waterval system recovers.
Customers are requested to repair leaks on their properties as these also contribute to the high demand on Johannesburg Water systems. Residents are requested to observe level-1 water restrictions which are implemented from 1 September to 31 March. These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, as well as fill up swimming pools and water features between 06:00 and 18:00. Instead, the use of greywater is encouraged.

Residents in Sandton are requested to please be aware of a
possible scam that has emerged in recent weeks.
An unknown individual is alleged to be impersonating a
Johannesburg Water official who visits the homes of Bryanston
residents and informs them they are there to replace their water
meters. The impersonator then proceeds to charge customers a
cash payment for the “services rendered”.
Please be informed that Johannesburg Water officials will under
no circumstances ask customers for cash payment for services
rendered.
Residents can report suspicious cases to our Johannesburg Water

Johannesburg Water implements daily interventions for high-consuming systems
As part of the Entity’s water demand management strategy, Johannesburg Water is currently implementing daily interventions on some systems that are strained.
These interventions include the daily throttling of high-consuming systems, which takes place from early evening to the early hours of the following morning.
This will result in low pressure to no water supply for the suburbs supplied by the affected systems.
The below systems will be throttled overnight from today, Monday 19 to Sunday, 25 February 2024:
• Sandton 1 and 2 meters – Linboro Park reservoir, Marlboro reservoir, Morningside reservoir, Bryanston reservoir and tower, Illovo reservoir and tower
Yeoville reservoir
Jabulani reservoir
Meadowlands 1 and 2 reservoirs
Zondi reservoir
Power Park reservoir

Sandton 1 and 2 meters closed due to high demand
Due to the overall high demand on Johannesburg Water’s systems, which severely affected the bulk supplier Rand Water’s capacity, the Sandton 1 and 2 meters have been closed. This is part of the Entity’s water management strategy, and to provide relief to the overall system.
Furthermore, as part of internal interventions, Johannesburg Water will throttle all the Sandton system’s reservoir outlets today to retain and therefore improve capacity in the systems.
The areas supplied by the Linboro Park and Marlboro direct feeds will be affected by no water.
Furthermore, all Sandton areas supplied by the reservoirs and towers will be affected by poor pressure to no water, especially high-lying areas.
Johannesburg Water will monitor and provide further updates as the situation improves.
Customers supplied by these reservoirs may experience poor pressure to no flow. Alternative water supply has been arranged through water tankers for the affected areas. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the above systems.
