Commando systems update
Commando system is satisfactory but under strain
The Commando system, which includes the reservoir complexes at Brixton, Crosby, and Hursthill reservoirs, is a top priority and is continuously monitored.
Several interventions, including night closures of reservoirs as well as throttling and closure of high demand areas, continue to be implemented. These are aimed at enhancing the recovery of the system, mostly against increasing demand and rising temperatures, recovery is noticeable but under observation.
Through the reconfiguration of systems, both from Johannesburg Water and the bulk supplier, the system is showing satisfactory signs of recovery with normal supply being observed.
• Crosby Reservoir: Inflow is fair, with the level remaining stable and both pumps running.
• Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The system is satisfactory with both pumps running. However, the Brixton Tower level is low but receiving supply and should stabilise during the day.
• Hursthill 1 Reservoir: The reservoir is empty and on bypass as previously communicated. The system is dependent on inflow, which is currently fair.
• Hursthill 2 Reservoir: The system level is satisfactory with fair inflows observed currently.
Updates on the recovery of the Commando and associated systems will be provided as Johannesburg Water implements a broadened restriction schedule (issued separately) and other re-configurations. Alternative water supply through tankers will be provided as and when required.
