Systems Update
Rand Water Maintenance: Eikenhof Pump Station
Maintenance at Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Station continues according to the planned schedule until 12 July 2024. Most Johannesburg Water systems supplied by Eikenhof have improved and are supplying fairly to normally.
The following systems are supplying poor to fairly:
Commando system
The demand continues to exceed supply, which is putting strain on the system. Reconfigurations are in progress for equitable distribution of available capacity.
•Crosby Reservoir: The reservoir level has improved and is supplying fairly. Pumping to the Brixton Reservoir is between 70% and 100%, depending on available inflows.
•Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir improved and supplying fairly, but declining and as a result, the outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity. While the Brixton Tower is supplying normally but can be affected by reservoir levels.
•Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs: Currently, both reservoirs have improved over the past two days and supplying fairly. However, both reservoirs are constrained, and poor pressure may be experienced. As part of interventions, the Hursthill 1 Reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply from neighbouring zones, while the outlet of Hursthill 2 reservoir will be closed overnight to build capacity. Other system specific interventions are implemented on an ongoing basis to respond to varying supply, current demand and reservoir levels.
Soweto systems
Most Soweto systems are supplying fairly. The Doornkop West Reservoir is constrained but supplying fairly. However, poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas due to increased demand. As part of interventions, the reservoir outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.
The Protea Glen Reservoir and Tower are supplying fairly, but localised challenges are causing the system to be unstable. Poor pressure is expected in certain parts of the supply zone, while other areas may experience no water supply.
Johannesburg Water will closely monitor all systems and continue to provide alternative water supply to affected customers.
