System Update

Commando System
The Commando system continues to be impacted by the recent incidents that disrupted the supply from Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station and Vereeniging Treatment Plant. As a result, the Commando system is still struggling to regain normal levels.

Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs
The reservoir levels remain critically low, poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. As part of the interventions Hursthill 2 reservoir outlet will be temporarily closed overnight to build capacity. Alternative water supply is being provided to affected areas.

Crosby
The reservoir remained stable throughout the day and supplying normally.

Brixton Reservoir and Tower
The reservoir remained stable throughout the day and is supplying normally. The tower is also supplying normally, and its operation is directly impacted by the reservoir level. As part of the intervention to improve reservoir level, Johannesburg Water will temporarily close the reservoir outlet during the night. Alternatively, the outlet will be closed once the reservoir level reaches a critically low point. Consequently, both the reservoir and tower supply zone will experience poor pressure to no water.

Crown Gardens Reservoir and Tower
Crown Gardens reservoir remains critically low following recent events as indicated above. The reservoir remains critically low, which directly affects the water tower levels. As a result, the areas supplied by the reservoir and tower will experience poor pressure to no water at times. Pumping into the tower is currently underway and is being done at a reduced rate due to the critically low level of the reservoir. Johannesburg Water will close the outlet of the reservoir overnight to build capacity in the reservoir. Areas supplied by the reservoir will experience poor pressure to no water as Johannesburg Water implements actions to improve the system.

Waterval and Quellerina Towers
The towers returned to normal levels later this morning, suggesting that the interventions from the bulk supplier were leading to improvements in the system.
