Systems Update

Although the overall systems are stable, high demand still persists even though we are in a low demand season.

Sandton System
Randjieslaagte Reservoir update
A Johannesburg Water team is currently on site conducting repair work. The inlet has been isolated (closed), and the team is pumping the chamber. Welding work will commence once the line is completely drained. Reservoir is currently and bypass is not active, isolated due to repairs. No water is expected in the supply zone. Further details will be provided.

Bryanston Pump Station and Tower
Repairs were completed around 15:00 and pumping resumed. The tower is gradually recovering and supplying normally.

Commando System
The overall capacity for the Commando system is low due to high demand, which remains an ongoing concern. While the Brixton reservoir and tower have good capacity levels, the Crosby, Hursthill1, and Hursthill 2 reservoirs are low.

As an ongoing/daily intervention, the Brixton and Hursthill 2 reservoir outlets are closed overnight to boost the capacity of the reservoirs. Johannesburg Water provides roaming water trucks as and when they are required.

Deep South System
Orange Farm Reservoir update
Johannesburg Water has discovered a major leak on the 300mm diameter pipe in Orange Farm Ext 2. So far, the team has stripped and exposed the pipe in preparation for repairs. The repairing of the pipe will require a special, non-standard fitting that is custom fabricated. Sourcing of necessary material required for repairs will commence tomorrow, 22 May 2024. Currently, water has been isolated (closed) and customers will have no water.
Alternative water supply through water tankers will be provided to the affected areas. Further updates will be provided.
