The City pleads for reduction of consumption as Rand Water Meredale Reservoir recovers

There has been improvement in capacity at Rand Water’s Meredale reservoir; however, Johannesburg Water’s infrastructure that has been impacted remains at critically low levels.

The following systems are at extremely low levels:

• Commando system ( Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill)
• Eagle Nest reservoir
• Crown Gardens reservoir

Alternate water supply is being provided to affected areas, including:

• Sophiatown
• Westbury
• Westdene
• Coronationville

Eagle Nest reservoir zone includes parts of:

• Southgate
• Mondeor
• Meredale
• Naturena
• Alan Manor
• Comptonville
• Eikenhof
• Devland
• Baragwanath ext 1
• Elias Motsoaledi ext 1

Crown Gardens reservoir zone includes parts of:

• Southdale
• Booysens Reserve
• Ormonde
• Nasrec
• Lake View estate
• Ophirton
• Selby ext 21
• Theta
• West Turfontein
• Robertsham
• Reuven
• Winchester Hills
• Turfontein
• Selby South

Customers in higher lying areas will experience low pressure/ no water as reservoirs are at very low levels.

Johannesburg Water is monitoring the infrastructure impacted and will provide updates on supply to customers.

Johannesburg Water urges customers to reduce consumption for critical needs during this period.

Leaks and bursts should be reported to reduce the risk of larger water outages.

Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

Randwater Eikenhof Pumpstation Failure

The Randwater’s Eikenhof pump station tripped several times yesterday until the early hours of the morning. This impacted their Meredale reservoir and subsequently affected the Commando system.

The Brixton, Hursthill and Crosby systems are all critically low this morning.

Johannesburg Water is monitoring the infrastructure impacted and will provide updates on supply to customers.

Customers in higher lying areas will experience low pressure/ no water during this period.

Alternative water supply will be provided to affected areas, including:

• Sophiatown
• Westbury
• Westdene
• Coronationville

Johannesburg Water urges customers to reduce consumption for critical needs during this period. Customers should report leaks and bursts to reduce the risk of larger water outages.

Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

Johannesburg Water infrastructure monitoring

Recovery of Helderkruin reservoir:
The recovery of the reservoir has improved overnight. Pumps are running. As the area affected is large, it may take some time for the network to be fully restored. We urge customers to reduce consumption for critical needs during this period as the network fills.

Affected areas:
• Helderkruin
• Roodekrans
• Wilropark

City Power outage affecting Waterval Tower and Quellerina Tower:
Due to City Power mains failure, supply into both Waterval and Quellerina Tower’s were affected. A generator is currently onsite, ensuring pumps operate at Waterval. Both Waterval and Quellerina Tower’s are at normal capacity and customers in the area have water restored.

Reduced pressure to Hector Norris pump station/ status of Yeoville reservoir:
The pipe replacement at Sivewright/ Curry str was completed early this morning.

Reduced pressure to Hector Norris pump station, has impacted on water supply to parts of the following areas:
• Johannesburg CBD
• Marshalltown
• Selby

Yeoville reservoir is currently at critically low levels. We are monitoring levels and will advise updates during the recovery of the system. Customers in high lying areas may still experience low pressure/ no water during the period. Due to City Power mains failure, Johannesburg Water’s Grand Central reservoir has been impacted. A generator is onsite ensuring that pumps are operational. Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

No water parts of Lanseria and surrounding areas

The team has located a burst pipe in the veld close to Ashenti Rd and corner Pelindaba rd, which is causing the area outage. A faulty valve has also been identified by the team, which will be attended to this morning. Relevant materials are being sourced to complete repairs. Repairs will include the repairs of the main as well as the valve. There is currently no estimated time for completion. Alternate water supply has been arranged for affected areas.
