Planned Rand Water Shutdown: 3 June 2022

Johannesburg Water (JW) would like to inform the residents of the Rand Water shutdown planned to take place on the 3rd June 2022. The shutdown is due to the installation of a new non-return valve on pumpset 20 at the Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant and, to tie-in the newly installed F46 pipeline to the existing F34 pipeline. The water supply to the Eikenhof Booster Station will be reduced by 50% and this will affect several areas in JW’s area of supply.
The duration of the shutdown will be 24 hours and it will take approximately 3-5 days for the system to adequately recover after supply has been fully restored.

The following Rand Water Reservoirs will be affected:
• Waterval 1 & 2, Weltevreden and Roodepoort

The following Rand Water meters will be affected:
• Corriemoor, Cornelius Street, Weltevreden High pressure, Weltevreden high pressure bypass, Honeydew reservoir No:1 and Commando Road

Customers are urged to use water sparingly and only for essential purposes during this period.

Johannesburg Water wishes to inform residents of Rand Water planned shutdown for a tie- in of the newly installed F46 pipeline to the existing F34 pipeline from 11 to 12 May 2022.

The following Rand Water feeds will be affected:
• Corriemoor reservoir
• Cornelius Street
• Weltevreden High pressure
• Weltevreden high pressure bypass
• Honeydew Reservoir

Honeydew Reservoir zone:
Parts of the following areas will be affected: Boskruin, Bromhof, Cosmo City, Honeypark, Kevin Ridge, Kya Sands, Laserpark, Noordhang, Northgate, Northriding, Northwold, Sundowner and Zandspruit. Kindly also note that the Honeydew Reservoir and Tower and the Corriemoor Reservoir will have no supply during the period. Customers are urged to use water sparingly and only for essential purposes. Should levels be reduced, the following areas will be affected: Honeydew, Honeydew Manor, Laserpark, Northriding, Randparkrif, Zandspruit.

More areas that will be affected during the outage:
Allensnek, Amorosa, Berario, Blackheath, Boskruin, Bromhof, Cosmo City, Fairlands, Honeypark, Kevin Ridge, Kya Sands, Laserpark , Little Falls, Northcliff , Noordhang, Northgate, Northriding, Northwold, Panorama, Poortview, Quellerina, Radiokop, Randparkrif, Ruimsig, Sundowner, Strubensvalley, Tres Jolie, Valeriedene Weltevreden Park, Willowbrook, Zandspruit.

The network recovery is estimated to take up to 48 hours and arrangements for alternate water supply for sensitive customers will be advised. Customers are requested to store water for consumption during the outage and recovery period. Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

The City pleads for reduction of consumption as Rand Water Meredale Reservoir recovers

There has been improvement in capacity at Rand Water’s Meredale reservoir; however, Johannesburg Water’s infrastructure that has been impacted remains at critically low levels.

The following systems are at extremely low levels:

• Commando system ( Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill)
• Eagle Nest reservoir
• Crown Gardens reservoir

Alternate water supply is being provided to affected areas, including:

• Sophiatown
• Westbury
• Westdene
• Coronationville

Eagle Nest reservoir zone includes parts of:

• Southgate
• Mondeor
• Meredale
• Naturena
• Alan Manor
• Comptonville
• Eikenhof
• Devland
• Baragwanath ext 1
• Elias Motsoaledi ext 1

Crown Gardens reservoir zone includes parts of:

• Southdale
• Booysens Reserve
• Ormonde
• Nasrec
• Lake View estate

Randwater Eikenhof Pumpstation Failure

The Randwater’s Eikenhof pump station tripped several times yesterday until the early hours of the morning. This impacted their Meredale reservoir and subsequently affected the Commando system.

The Brixton, Hursthill and Crosby systems are all critically low this morning.

Johannesburg Water is monitoring the infrastructure impacted and will provide updates on supply to customers.

Customers in higher lying areas will experience low pressure/ no water during this period.

Alternative water supply will be provided to affected areas, including:

• Sophiatown
• Westbury
• Westdene
• Coronationville

Johannesburg Water urges customers to reduce consumption for critical needs during this period. Customers should report leaks and bursts to reduce the risk of larger water outages.
