Systems Update

30 March 2024 – 09:50

Most Johannesburg Water systems are showing improvements due to adequate supply, however; some continue to be affected by high demand and poor incoming supply.

Commando system:
Crosby and Hursthill 2 reservoirs remain critically low. Poor pressure to no water could be experienced in high-lying areas.
Hursthill 1 reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the system and provide alternate water supply to affected areas.

Illovo tower:
Power was restored overnight, and pumping has resumed. The tower is recovering and supplying fairly.
Affected areas: /illovo-tower/

Honeydew reservoir:
The system is low resulting in low pressure to no water. Investigations are underway with some intervention work planned for early next week.

Alternative water supply will be provided to affected areas.

Waterval and Quellerina towers
Some Johannesburg Water systems are experiencing challenges due to incoming supply from the Bulk Supplier, and some are due to internal system issues on the side of Johannesburg Water.

Consequently, areas like parts of Robindale, Linden, parts of Blairgowrie, Northcliff Ext and Bergbron are experiencing low pressure to no water. Johannesburg Water technical teams are currently working on interventions to improve supply to these areas. These include checking for any valve closures and the repairing of burst pipes.

Commando System
Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs remain critical low. High-lying areas of the supply zone have poor pressure to no water. Teams are balancing and augmenting the system to boost supply to the Commando meter.

Affected areas by Commando System include but not limited to: Emmarentia, Hursthill, Crosby, Auckland Park, Jan Hofmeyer, Vredepark, Vrededorp. Sophiatown, Coronationville and Westdene.

Alternative water supply in the form of roaming water tankers is being arranged for the affected areas.
