Systems Update
Meredale system
Although the demand continues to be high on Rand Water’s Meredale system, some of Johannesburg Water’s reservoirs are experiencing positive outcomes as a result of internal interventions by the technical teams. Eagles Nest reservoir, which feeds the Naturena reservoir, has enjoyed improved water levels since Monday, while Doornkop West reservoir is also moving in an upward trend. The Entity will continue to throttle the Naturena and Doornkop West reservoirs overnight to build supply. Customers in this supply zone may experience poor pressure, particularly in high-lying areas. The Jabulani reservoir continues to supply on bypass mode.
The Entity continues to monitor the Meredale system while exploring possible interventions to assist in retaining water storage. Customers are requested to lower consumption and repair leaks in their properties as these also contribute to high demand.
Berea reservoir
The reservoir levels are currently critically low. Customers in the supply zone should expect intermittent water supply. The reason for the low levels is being looked into by the Entity.
Bryanston pump station and tower
Water levels in this system dropped significantly on Tuesday, 6 February due to a City Power area outage, which affected the Bryanston pump station and tower. Pumping has since improved, and the system is steadily stabilising.
Midrand system
Although the overall system is stable, the President Park reservoir is steadily moving in a downwards direction. Technical teams are exploring possible interventions.
Commando System
The system continues to be under immense strain. The Crosby reservoir is on a downwards trajectory and water levels are critically low, while both the Hursthill 1 and Hursthill 2 reservoirs are critically low. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in parts of the above supply zones. As part of Johannesburg Water’s intervention, Hursthill 1 reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply. Hursthill 2 will be closed overnight to build capacity.
The following reservoirs will either be closed or throttled to 90% overnight (between 21:00 and 04:00) to retain water and build capacity for the next day:
• Soweto: Doornkop West and Naturena
• Commando: Brixton and Hursthill 2
• Alexandra Park
• Deep South: Orange Farm reservoir 2, Lenasia high-level, Lenasia Hospital Hill, Lawley
Customers supplied by these reservoirs may experience poor pressure to no flow. Alternative water supply has been arranged through water tankers for the affected areas. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the above systems.
Residents are requested to observe level-1 water restrictions which are implemented from 1 September to 31 March. These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, as well as fill up swimming pools and water features between 06:00 and 18:00. Instead, the use of greywater is encouraged.

Systems Update
Alexander Park reservoir
The reservoir is currently under immense strain, which has reduced the amount of storage. Although capacity has been steady, it is still low. As an intervention, the reservoir is being throttled overnight to build capacity. As a result, poor pressure can be expected during this time.
Eagles Nest reservoir
Although the reservoir levels are lower than they were a week ago, storage capacity improved slightly overnight. Mitigation strategies are still ongoing to boost and retain capacity. Customers in this supply zone may be affected by low pressure, especially in high-lying areas.
Soweto system
Despite efforts to reduce excessive demand and increase capacity, the Doornkop reservoir remains low. Customers in this supply zone may experience poor pressure, particularly in high-lying areas. The Jabulani reservoir continues to supply on bypass, while the rest of the Soweto systems are stable.
However, demand is still on high on the overall Meredale system, specifically in Soweto areas. Customers are requested to lower consumption and repair leaks in their properties as these also contribute to high demand. Areas supplied by the following reservoirs will have low water pressure: Doornkop West, Protea Glen, parts of Meadowlands, and Zondi reservoirs.
Midrand
The water levels at the Development Bank reservoir have improved significantly since the beginning of the week. Water supply is now normal.
Commando System
Demand on the system continues to be high. The Crosby reservoir is still low. Although Hursthill 1 reservoir has increased slightly, it is still low. Hursthill 2 has declined and is critically low. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in parts of the supply zone.

Systems Update
Alexander Park reservoir
There is currently high demand on the reservoir, which has decreased the storage levels. As an intervention, the reservoir is being throttled overnight to build capacity. As a result, poor pressure can be expected during this time.
Eagles Nest reservoir
The reservoir levels have declined compared to the previous week. However, mitigation strategies are ongoing to try augment and retain capacity. Customers in this supply zone may be affected by low pressure, especially in high-lying areas.
Soweto system
Although interventions are in place to curb the high demand and build capacity, the Doornkop reservoir is still low. Customers in this supply zone may experience poor pressure, particularly in high-lying areas. The Jabulani reservoir continues to supply on bypass, while the rest of the Soweto systems are stable.
However, demand is still on high on the overall Meredale system, specifically in Soweto areas. Areas supplied by the following reservoirs will have low water pressure: Doornkop West, Protea Glen, parts of Meadowlands, and Zondi reservoirs.
Midrand
The water levels at the Development Bank reservoir have declined compared to last week. This may result in poor pressure, particularly in high-lying areas. The other reservoirs in the Midrand system are stable.
Commando System
Although supply has increased between yesterday and today, demand on the system is still high. The Crosby reservoir declined compared to last week. The Hursthill 1 reservoir is critically low, while Hursthill 2 remains low. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in parts of the supply zone. As part of Johannesburg Water’s intervention, Hursthill 1 reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply. Hursthill 2 will be closed overnight to build capacity.

Aeroton reservoir maintenance to impact parts of Soweto and southern suburbs
Johannesburg Water will be conducting a planned maintenance at the Aeroton reservoir from 10:00 on Friday, 2 February until 20:00 on Friday, 9 February.
The maintenance, which is for the purpose of conducting a structural assessment and cleaning at the reservoir, will affect parts of Soweto and southern suburbs, including
Aeroton, Ormonde, Ormonde View, Orlando East and West, Diepkloof, Diepkloof extension, Diepkloof extensions 2 and 10, as well as the Baragwanath and Doctor SK Matseke Hospitals.
This is part of routine maintenance work, which is crucial to ensure continuity of water supply, improved services to customers, as well as to minimise water losses.
During this time, customers should expect low pressure to no water, particularly in high-lying areas. Alternative water supply will be provided through water tankers, especially in high-lying areas, as and when necessary.
Once the maintenance is completed on the Friday, all the reservoirs will be steadily filled over the weekend and water supply should be stable again by the start of the new week.
